Ethical Clearance Process

Several people on both campuses are working on various research projects that will eventually require ethical clearance. The ABP Research Committee is here to help you out with this process. Here are the ZU Office of Research Ethical Clearance Guidelinesand link to the ZU webpage for the Office of Research.

The process is time consuming as the ZU Ethical Research Committee only meets about once a month. If you are planning research in the near future, the time is now to apply for clearance. Please feel free to set up an appointment with Jenny E., Aicha, David Jeffrey or myself on the DXB campus or Effie, Tara, Debra, or Jeffrey on the AUH campus. We can explain the process and review applications and survey tools prior to you submitting to the EC.

Please contact us if you have any questions.

How Can I Get Started?

There are a number of different avenues you may take to get started on a research project – big or small.

1. Contact Tara Waller as the ABP representative on the University Research Standing Committee and she will be more than happy to sit down with you and discuss how to set up a project or point you in a positive direction to get started.

2. The university Office of Research offers a number of workshops to help faculty members who are currently conducting research projects. Attending these workshops are not only helpful in developing your research skills, but also provide you with an opportunity to meet other faculty members who are doing research, which may lead to collaboration or motivational support.

3. Find another colleague who might have research experience, interest, etc and work together to build a research project, making it easier to tackle with someone than alone.

The ABP management and Zayed University fully support faculty research. With this support will come consideration for more time to focus on a project, possible funding opportunities and inevitable professional development!

Do I Really Have the Time?

Truthfully, you are probably doing research every time you walk in to your classroom and look for ways to better teach your students. Just because it isn’t defined as such or drafted into a research project, doesn’t mean that you aren’t doing research! If you’re doing it anyway, wouldn’t it be great to package it so that it can benefit your colleagues, develop the field and pad your CV?

Not every research project needs to be at a PhD dissertation level. Doing a small Action Research project is something that will benefit your classroom/teaching directly and can help others once you present and/or publish your results! Why not give it a try?

What is Research Exactly?

What is Research Exactly?

How do we define research?

There are many definitions or explanations available on what research means, but in simple terms doing research is to do “a careful study to discover the correct information” about a particular topic or area of interest. Most commonly educational research stems from a question/problem found in the classroom and an appropriate solution is studied, tested and applied to help the teacher and learners.
