INTERNAL FUNDING SOURCES
1. Start-Up Research Grants
Start-Up Research Grants are designed to assist new faculty, within their first year of contract with ZU, to continue previous research or to seed new research.
Start-Up Grants aim to:
1. assist new faculty to continue ongoing research projects; or
2. seed new faculty directed research, which would normally be eligible for annual Research Incentive Fund (RIF) grant funding.
Start-Up Grant recipients are expected to apply for a RIF Grant in the next award cycle.
Ø Start-Up Grant Proposals should be submitted during the Spring semester of every year.
2. Provost’s Research Fellowship Award
The Provost’s Research Fellowship Award enables faculty members to complete major research or scholarly/creative projects that will result in important scholarly contributions of value to the research community, ZU and the UAE.
The Provost’s Office supports up to three (3) faculty awards per semester. The Award provides a full or partial teaching reassignment for the full semester to faculty members with established research or scholarly/creative project agendas.
The Fellowship Award will provide a full or partial teaching reassignment for one semester to faculty members with established research or scholarly/creative project agendas.
Proposals will be reviewed first by the candidate’s Department Chair and then by the candidate’s Dean to ensure that the reassignment will not significantly disadvantage the college. Applications will not be considered without relevant Dean approval.
Proposals will then be reviewed by a panel of Associate Provosts and the Assistant Provost for Research, who will make recommendations to the Provost for the final selections.
Ø Applications will be invited in mid-December for reassignments during the following Fall semester, and in mid-May for reassignments during the following Spring semester.
